  6. Winner Determination:

    a) Judging Phase: After the conclusion of the Submission Phase, a panel of qualified judges determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion will screen the Submissions to confirm that they comply with the Submission Guidelines and Content Restrictions described above.  Any Submission that does not conform to the Submission Guidelines and Content Restrictions will not be eligible for consideration of any prize.  Qualified judges will then select the five (5) highest scoring Submissions (each a "Finalist") from among all eligible Submissions received, based on an application of the following criteria (“Judging Criteria”):

For the video portion of the Submission (worth 70% of total Submission score):

    • Demonstrated dedication and passion for animals and adventure and
    • Demonstration of professional, charismatic, creative, and energetic persona.

For the short answer portion of the Submission (worth 30% of total Submission score):

    • Demonstrated passion for animals and adventure and
    • Creativity and clarity in communication.

In the event of a tie, the Finalist whose Submission received the higher score in the "Demonstrated dedication and passion for animals and adventure" category as part of the video portion of their Submission, as determined by the qualified judges in their sole discretion, will be deemed the potential winner. Sponsor reserves the right to select fewer than the stated number of winners, if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Submissions.

    b) Winner Determination Phase: During the Winner Determination Phase, the five (5) Finalist Submissions will be posted to an online gallery at www.columbuszoo.org/contest.  The general public will be invited to vote for the Submission they believe has the most public appeal. Individuals may vote one (1) time per day during the Voting Phase. The number of votes a Submission receives during the Winner Determination Phase will count towards that Submission's score in the Public Appeal category, as listed below. Qualified judges will then evaluate the five (5) Finalists based on an application of the Judging Criteria listed below, which takes into account the Public Appeal score, and select the three (3) highest scoring Submissions (each a potential "winner") from among all Finalists.:

For the video portion of the Submission (worth 45% of total Submission score):

    • Demonstrated dedication and passion for animals and adventure.
    • Demonstration of professional, charismatic, creative, and energetic persona and
    • Confidence that this finalist could be an effective public advocate for animals.

For the short answer portion of the Submission (worth 15% of total Submission score):

    • Demonstrated passion for animals and adventure and
    • Creativity and clarity in communication.

    Public Appeal (40%).

For Voting: Multiple voters are not permitted to share the same email address.  Multiple votes received from any person or email address in excess of the stated number per day will be void.  Finalists are prohibited from obtaining votes by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.  Use of any automated system to vote is prohibited and will result in disqualification.  Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible or misdirected votes.
  7. Winner Requirements: The potential winner that had the highest score will be notified by email or phone on or around December 10, 2010 and given his/her choice between the Grand, First, or Second Prize. The potential winner with the second highest score will then be given an opportunity to choose amongst the remaining prizes. The potential winner with the third highest score will be offered the remaining prize. The potential winner that selects the Grand Prize (parent/legal guardian if winner is a minor in his/her state of residence) will be required to complete, electronically sign, and submit a Declaration of Compliance within ten (10) days of the date notice or attempted notice is sent, in order to claim his/her prize. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, fails to execute and return the Declaration of Compliance within the required time period (if applicable), does not comply with these Official Rules, or prize is returned as undeliverable, potential winner forfeits the prize. If a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, the applicable prize may be awarded to a Finalist runner-up determined by the qualified judges, in Sponsor's sole discretion. Only Finalists will be eligible to be named a runner-up, after which the applicable prize will remain un-awarded. Acceptance of any prize shall constitute and signify winner’s agreement and consent that Sponsor and its designees may use the winner’s name, city, state, likeness, Submission and/or prize information in connection with the Contest for promotional, advertising or other purposes, worldwide, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, including the Internet, without limitation and without further payment, notification, permission or other consideration, except where prohibited by law. Winner accepts and acknowledges that Sponsor shall not be obligated to use the Submission and that Sponsor in its sole discretion shall have the right to refrain from using the Submission. Sponsor shall not incur any liability whatsoever to the extent Sponsor chooses to refrain from any exploitation of its rights hereunder. Winner will indemnify Sponsor, Released Parties (as defined in Section 9, below) and any licensee of Sponsor against all claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable counsel fees and legal expenses) arising out of any breach of these terms.
