Powell, OH – Tom Stalf has been named to the position of Assistant Zoo Director of Operations at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium after a nationwide search. Stalf announced his resignation today at the Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley, Ill. where he has worked for 19 years including the last 15 years as Zoo Director. Tom started his zoo career as an animal keeper following completion of his undergraduate degree in biology at Western Illinois University.
“We are very excited to have Tom join our zoo family” said Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Executive Director Dale Schmidt. “His breadth of experience in this industry and passion for our mission makes him the perfect fit for our organization.”
Mr. Stalf will join the Columbus Zoo in about a month and his responsibilities will include education, promotions, IT, security, facilities, maintenance and construction. He is filling the position left vacant when Dale Schmidt was promoted to Executive Director in November 2009.
“I’ve already had the opportunity to work closely with many members of the Columbus Zoo team and look forward to contributing to the success of the number one zoo in America” said Tom Stalf.
