WHY: Animals on Safari is an educational and entertaining animal show produced specifically for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium by internationally known animal trainer Joel Slaven This fast-paced energetic 20-minute show features more than 120 animals, both exotic and domestic. The cats, dogs, even rats and pigs, appearing in Animals on Safari were rescued from local animal shelters. Once unwanted, they are now superstars and ambassadors for the millions of pets available for adoption. Throughout the performance, audience members are encouraged to be responsible pet owners and the show reinforces the message that exotic animals do not make good pets. Timed to music composed for the new show the animals do specialized behaviors such as moving props, pulling curtains, and arranging set pieces. Dogs will jump rope and perform high jumps, cats weave in and out of their trainers’ legs and climb ropes, kangaroos repair flat tires, and more!
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open every day of the year 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. after Labor Day. General admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children ages 2 to 9 and seniors 60+. Children under 2 and Columbus Zoo members are free.
