At the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, we believe thriving communities are built by bold ideas, shared purpose, and the people who inspire the next generation.
That is why we are proud to support the grassroots movement to bring a National Women’s Soccer League team to Columbus, joining a growing chorus of Central Ohio voices rallying behind the future of women’s sports. Columbus is already one of the strongest soccer communities in the country, with passionate fans, deep local pride, and national momentum behind the bid.
For nearly a century, this community has shown what is possible when people come together around something bigger than themselves. We see that same spirit in the movement for women’s professional soccer. It’s about a team, yes, but it’s also about visibility, opportunity, leadership, and showing girls across Central Ohio what is possible when women are given the stage they deserve.
That belief connects directly to our mission: Empowering People. Saving Wildlife.
Every day across the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, The Wilds, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club, women help shape the future of our organizations. They lead animal care teams, direct conservation science, protect wildlife habitats, manage guest experiences, guide strategy, tell stories, and inspire millions of guests each year. Their leadership is woven into every part of our work, from the habitats our guests explore to the global conservation impact they help make possible.
The same truth applies far beyond our gates. When women lead in sports, science, conservation, education, and business, entire communities grow stronger.
Supporting women’s professional soccer in Columbus is one more way we invest in a future where talent, dedication, and leadership are seen, celebrated, and elevated. It sends a powerful message to young guests walking through our Zoo, to girls in Central Ohio lacing up cleats after school, and to every future leader still discovering what she can become.
Columbus has always been a city that shows up for what matters. We are proud to stand with our community in support of a future NWSL team and the lasting impact it could create for generations to come.
