It’s the most dazzling time of the year at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium! As millions of lights twinkle across the park and holiday music fills the air, here’s your insider guide to making the most of this Central Ohio tradition — plus a few fun facts to impress your friends along the way.

Wildlights Has Been Wowing Guests for More Than Three Decades
What started as a small light display in the late 1980s has grown into a massive holiday spectacular with millions of LED lights, animated shows, and themed zones that stretch across the entire Zoo.
There Are Sensory-Friendly Events for Every Family
The Columbus Zoo believes everyone deserves to enjoy the magic of Wildlights. That’s why we offer two special sensory-friendly experiences each year:
- Sensory-Friendly Light Stroll: Enjoy the lights at your own pace with smaller crowds, lower sound levels, and a calming environment for guests who prefer a quieter visit.
- Sensory-Friendly Santa Experience: Meet Santa in a relaxed space with soft lighting and limited sensory input for children who need a more peaceful holiday experience.
Pre-registration is required for these events — and they fill quickly each season!
The Animals Are Part of the Wildlights Magic
Guests are encouraged to arrive before 4:00 p.m. to view some animals like the gorillas and orangutans, who like to go to sleep early. Other animals may be able to be seen outdoors (like reindeer and tigers!), and more can be found in their indoor habitats, including:
- Sea lions and harbor seals in Adventure Cove
- Jack Hanna’s Animal Encounters Village residents
- Naomi Coyle Dempsey Quest for Enlightenment Interpretive Center residents, like bats, langur monkeys, and sloth bears.
- Asian elephants (both babies born this year may be sleeping behind-the-scenes by this time of night)
- Discovery Reef fish and sharks
- Manatees, including our beloved resident manatee, Stubby
- Reptile Building residents like snakes, turtles, and hellbenders!

You’ll Find New Surprises Around Every Corner
Wildlights keeps growing, and this year’s lineup includes new immersive light tunnels, character meet-and-greets, and musical shows synchronized to holiday classics.

Plan for Traffic Like a Pro
Wildlights is one of Central Ohio’s busiest holiday attractions, so plan ahead for parking and road delays.

- Expect heavier-than-normal traffic, and follow directions from Zoo and public safety personnel.
- Do not park or stop on nearby roads leading to the Zoo.
- Once inside the parking lot, follow signs and park only in designated spaces.
- Bring snacks, water, medication, and a phone charger for your drive to your destination from the Zoo since exits may take time.
- The Columbus Zoo is a weapon-free zone; please secure weapons in your vehicle before entering.
- Only call 911 in case of an emergency, as local dispatchers will be managing high call volumes.

Before You Head Out
Before Wildlights kicks off, there’s just a couple things we want to make sure you know before you go!
- Arrive early to see animals, many of whom are in for the night at 5pm.
- Dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. The Zoo is huge, and your visit will last a few hours!
- Be patient and be prepared. The Zoo is a popular holiday destination in Ohio!
- Don’t forget hot cocoa! We think it’s the best in town.
- Weekdays = smaller crowds! Wildlights is just as enjoyable during the week as it is on the weekends.
Every Visit Supports Wildlife Conservation
Your ticket, membership, or souvenir purchase helps fund the Zoo’s global conservation work for endangered species.
Fun fact: Since Wildlights began, guest support has helped raise millions for wildlife programs around the world — all while creating holiday memories right here at home.
Whether it’s your first visit or a family tradition, Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a celebration of joy, wildlife, and community that keeps getting brighter every year.
