Baby Elephant Viewing
Thousands of Columbus Zoo guests have seen baby elephant and her mom, Sunny, and you can, too!
Baby Rita Jean now spends most (if not all) of her day in the habitat. Make sure to check the front yard, the backyard, and inside, as the elephants are in different locations throughout the day!
Thank you for understanding that viewing opportunities may vary to support the calf's routine and wellbeing.

Due This Fall: Phoebe's Baby!
Phoebe is absolutely glowing — and her care team says she is “the best ever” when it comes to pregnancy! This calm, easygoing mama-to-be is expected to welcome her calf in late October or early November, and she’s handling this pregnancy beautifully.
Behind the scenes, our Conservation Medicine team is hard at work making sure both Phoebe and her baby are healthy every step of the way:
- Weekly ultrasounds to check on the calf and keep Phoebe comfortable with the process
- Weekly bloodwork to monitor her health and progesterone levels
- Herd-wide monitoring for EEHV (a virus that can affect young elephants)
Phoebe is already the proud mom of big brother Frankie, and we’re grateful to our community for sharing in the excitement as we prepare to welcome this newest addition.
